Stop illegal tree felling

The recent large-scale felling of hundreds of trees in Sattari is deeply worrying and raises serious concerns about the protection of Goa’s forests. Such incidents remind us of how illegal logging can cause lasting damage to the environment while benefiting only a few. Although the Goa government has often stressed the importance of protecting trees, stronger action is needed to prevent such incidents. It is important to find out where the large quantities of timber are being transported and who the buyers are.

The authorities must ensure that those responsible for illegal tree felling are identified and brought to justice. Our peaceful villages and rich natural heritage are under threat. If this continues, Goa risks losing its green cover, affecting wildlife, water resources and the quality of life for future generations. We urge the authorities to take firm and timely action to protect Goa’s forests and preserve the state’s natural beauty. Let Goa remain green, peaceful and thriving.
