Goa’s legendary music icon Remo Fernandes gave what was described as his final live performance in the UK on August 2, 2026, at the UK Goan Festival (Goa Day 2026) at Cranford Community College, Hounslow, London, alongside his band, the Microwave Papaddums. The emotionally charged crowd repeatedly chanted his name and sang along as Remo, performing seated due to illness, delivered hits including ‘O Meri Munni’, ‘Bombay City’, ‘Ocean Queen’, ‘Humma’ and ‘O Maria Pitache’. He played the flute, acoustic guitar and electric guitar, once again displaying his distinctive style and musicianship.
Remo has also used music to highlight social and political issues through songs such as ‘Graham Bell’, ‘Mr Minister’, ‘Pack That Smack’, ‘Everybody Wants To’, ‘Politicians Don’t Know to Rock ’n’ Roll’ and ‘Indian Lady’. Fans will remember him not only for his compositions but also for championing genuine live music. His decades-long contribution to Goan music, including writing, composing and recording songs from his home studio in Siolim, remains an inspiration.
