We are observing the 15th State Road Safety Week, with Senior Citizens’ Day also approaching. The recent road rage incident involving an influential BJP MLA’s son, Rahul Fhaldessai, and his subsequent apology to the senior citizen is a gesture of humility and respect that deserves appreciation. His commitment not to repeat such behaviour is also commendable. Yes, road rage can occur due to the pressures of driving, poor road design and pothole-ridden roads. However, as disciplined drivers and riders, we must learn to control our instinctive anger and frustration and refrain from
acting irresponsibly.
Power and money should never give anyone the right to drive without following traffic rules. This incident should serve as a lesson to all rash drivers and riders. We must remember that responsible driving is not just about following rules but also about respecting fellow road users. “Be a Safe Rider, Be a Safe Driver and Reach Safe” is a befitting message for this Road Safety Week and for the days ahead.
