One sometimes wonder, how would those living in Mumbai a few decades ago, would have known or understood Goa, without MarioMiranda, one of India's greatest illustrators and a man who's sketches, immortalised Goa much before the state could have even dreamed of being a tourism destination.
While Goa was the late Mario Miranda's world, the professional legacy of one of Goa's greatest sons of the soil, is tucked away in an artistically designed 'memorial' dedicated to his work.
A visit to the Mario Miranda gallery, located in the leafy valley in Salvador do Mundo, is special by any standards.
Designed and curated by noted architect Gerard D'Cunha, it features some of the finest works of Mario Miranda, which includes his more than brilliant cartoons and sketches penned while working for some of India's media platforms like The Illustrated Weekly, The Economic Times, etc.
The best part is that official prints of Mario's works are on sale, including some limited edition prints of his sketches of iconic towns and countries like Bombay/Mumbai, Goa, Germany, Paris, New York, Singapore, Portugal, Macau and Japan.
Need some pictures framed or gift wrapped? That can be worked out here too. The price for the sketches ranges from Rs. 300 odd for the smaller prints to big ticket prices as the images go bigger or rarer.
The gallery also gives you a great opportunity to pick up some great iconic greeting cards across sizes, which can be gifted or mailed to your near and dear ones.
However, the gallery's magnum opus is a collection of 30 folios of Mario's work, opened to public viewing in spetacular style. You can immerse yourself in the style and passion of the artiste hoping some can rub off on you.
