PANAJI
Shashikala Manguesh Hodarkar nee Almeida was born on June 23, 1931, a member of the National Congress (Goa), she was inspired by Sindhutai Deshpande and decided to offer satyagraha at Panaji on November 25, 1954, along with her associates. However, due to strict police vigilance at her house in Madgaon (now Margao), she could not participate. She eventually offered satyagraha at Madgaon on February 17, 1955, alongside Vilasini Prabhu. They were arrested for holding nationalist flags, posters and pamphlets and shouting slogans like 'Jai-Hind.' Her story is documented in the Sinquerim-based Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa - The Land, The Struggle, The People.
