VALPOI
The BJP claimed a clean sweep as all 10 candidates backed by the party won elections at the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) on Monday.
Elections were conducted in nine of the 10 wards after Nirmala Sakhar had been elected unopposed from Ward 8 and counting of votes took place at the Forest Training School Hall in Valpoi under the guidance of Returning Officer Rajesh Azgaonkar, who is also deputy collector of Sattari. He was assisted by Sattari Mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas.
In Ward 8, Sarfaraz Sayyad was elected by a huge margin of 479 votes, while in Ward 1 Anil Katkar was also elected by a large margin of 472 votes.
A close contest took place in Ward 10, as Sahazin Sheikh got elected by a slim margin of 37 votes.
The results of the elections at the VMC were: WARD 1: Anil Arvind Katkar (526) defeated Devendra Gavkar (54), WARD 2: Ramdas Shirodkar (441) defeated Ramesh Zarmekar (225) and Roshan Desai (22), WARD 3: Vinod Haldankar (226) defeated Umesh Gulelkar (183), WARD 4: Prasanna Gavas (305) defeated Reshma Gavas (183), Milan Gavas (49) and Rajshree Gavas (12), WARD 5: Idris Sheikh (440) defeated Abdul Munir Beg (236), WARD 6: Sharafat Younis Khan (344) defeated Ismail Hassan Khan (226), WARD 7: Sarfaraz Syed (515) defeated Deepa Mandrekar (25), Ward 8: Nirmala Sakhalkar (elected unopposed), WARD 9: Vasyuddin Syed Burhanuddin (218) defeated Dharmendra Salunkhe (181), Khan Shiraz Saliya (109) and Sheikh Saheb Ji Ali (63) and WARD 10: Sehzin Sheikh (299) defeated Shweta Kanekar (253).
