Mumbai-based Goan photographer Salonee Kamat Jain’s photograph has won the ‘People’s Choice’ award at the Documentary Family Photographer’s (DFP)’s International exhibit 2022 held online. The exhibit represented true and diverse ways of interpreting the theme ‘Community’ with opening reception on June 13 at 10.30 pm. The exhibit was a virtual 3D gallery and was held on the DFP Gallery website www.dfp-gallery.com from June 13 to July 16. Her photograph was chosen for the People’s Choice award.

Speaking to The Goan Salonee expressed her joy for winning an award at the prestigious international photography exhibit. “The feeling of winning an award for India cannot be expressed in words. This was impossible without the public support, time and motivation,” she said, thanking those who voted in favour of her photograph.

“Several of you faced issues while voting and yet you’ll didn’t give up. So many of you are not tech savvy, but took the effort to go to the website and vote. Few of you shared my message with your friends and colleagues asking them to vote. I am humbled by the love that you have shown to me and my photograph,” said a humbled Salonee.

A Goan, she was the only photographer selected from India to exhibit her work at the international exhibit opening on June 13. Professional photographer and educator Salonee Kamat Jain exhibited her photograph at the Documentary Family Photographer’s International Exhibition and she got the honour to be the only photographer from India who participated in this prestigious exhibit that had 41 photographers from 14 countries showcasing their photographs, a total of 50 on the theme ‘Community’.

Daughter of Dr Shaila and Dr Shodhan Kamat from Porvorim, Salonee has umpteen awards in photography to her credit. A student of Sharada Mandir, Vidya Prabodhini and Saraswat College, Salonee, an MBA in Finance from IMDR, Pune chose photography over her high-paid job as an associate director in CRISIL, a global consultancy firm based in Mumbai. Focussing on her passion of photography after a decade-long job in CRISIL, she is now a professional photographer and an international educator who has 500 plus students in the range of age 6 to 70 years from across the globe.

A people’s person, street and travel photography is her passion. Showcasing Indian culture to the world is her dream and she does that through her photographs which are widely popular among her global pupils. Her work can be viewed on https:/Instagram.com/thesaloneejain
