Jackie Chan goes Indian

Jackie Chan goes Indian

Kung Fu Yoga is an effort to merge Chinese and Bollywood film fundas together to whip up something almost as good as the Indo-Chinese food fusion! Sadly though it does not live up to the promise. Kung Fu Yoga was announced in May 2015 as one of three Chinese-Indian projects commissioned during Xi Jinping’s state visit to India. However, co-producer Viacom 18, one of Bollywood’s biggest studios, soon pulled out. Thus making the screenplay too heavily skewed towards mainland Chinese tastes to explore ideas, in turn marking a missed opportunity for an original mashup of Bollywood and Chinese entertainment styles.

With a story line that briefly goes like, Chinese archaeology professor Jack (Jackie Chan) teams up with Indian professor Ashmita and assistant Kyra to locate lost Magadha treasure. In a Tibetan ice cave, they find the remains of the royal army that had vanished together with the treasure, only to be ambushed by Randall (Sonu Sood), the descendent of a rebel army leader. When they free themselves, their next stop is Dubai where a diamond from the ice cave is to be auctioned. After a series of double-crosses and revelations about their past, Jack and his team travel to a mountain temple in India, using the diamond as a key to unlock the real treasure.

Although if you are a Jackie Chan fan and like brainless comedy movies, you just might end up enjoying this one. Kung-Fu Yoga has some good slapstick comedy and adequate fight scenes, not to mention a typical Bollywood number, but not nearly enough to justify sticking it out for 107 long minutes. It’s a dicey difficult choice not made for everyone. Watch the trailer here https://goo.gl/XMQFQj
