A cow shed was reduced to ashes at Ranvaddo-Betalbatim on Tuesday morning, but the alert owner and others managed to rescue the cattle from the shed.
Barring a calf, all the remaining six calves and a she buffalo tied inside the shed were rescued by the owner Marian Piedade Fernandes and others.
The owner told The Goan that the fire broke out in the cow shed due to lighting of fire crackers close to the structure. “My wife raised an alarm after she saw the fire at the cow shed. There were as many as seven cattle, including calves tied inside the shed. Since time was running out, we decided to cut the ropes that tied the cattle and rescue them. We managed to rescue six, but our efforts to untie the calf could not succeed as the fire then spread to dangerous proportions,” Marian said.
Though he could not estimate the exact loss he has sustained in the fire incident, Marian has suffered a substantial loss with the shed reduced to ashes.
