PANAJI rGoan swimmers and divers led by the impressive Shoan Ganguly gave a good account of themselves at the 34th Glenmark Sub Junior Aquatic Championship 2017 held at Balewadi, Pune recently. Shoan Ganguly, a Bengali who has made Goa his home, claimed a rich haul of four gold medals and in the process set three new meet records. rHe had a timing of 2:08:48 in 200 mtr freestyle, 1:02:75 (new meet record) in 100 mtr Butterfly thereby erasing the old record set by Sanjay C.J. (Karnataka) of 1:03:65. rIn the 200 mtr individual medley, he clocked 2:23:20 to break the old record set by Swadesh Mondal (Bengal), who had a timing of 2:26:73, while in the 50 mtr butterfly, he established a new meet record with a timing of 00:28:61, surpassing Basatab Bordoli’s (Assam) timing of 00:28:71. Shoan trains at Peddem under Surajit Ganguly, the Goa Swimming Association coach. rIn diving (Girls group 3), Megan De Almeida won a gold and two silver medals, while Kritika Dessai won a bronze medal. rBoth divers are coached by P Narasimhalu.
