Bringing a good news for the Indian film industry, the Russian ambassador to India, Nikolay Kudashev announced the joint production of films and cultural exchange programme between India and Russia.
The bi-lateral agreement was signed in Russia in September 2019 with a common aim to further the cultural ties between the two countries mentioned Kudashev while addressing a press conference at the ongoing 50th International Film Festival of India recently. Kudashev further highlighted that as part of the cultural exchange program, the two countries will be exposed to each other’s literature. “Ten book from Russian language will be published in Hindi, and similarly, ten Hindi books will be translated into Russian language,” stated the ambassador.
Russia being the country of focus this IFFI, there are eight carefully selected movies chosen for the film festival.
“Best of the award winning films have been chosen for the screening at the film festival,” informed the head of Russian delegation in IFFI and editor-in-chief of Kinoreporter, Maria Lemesheva.
One of the Russian movies, ‘Abigail’ portrays the fantasy of youngsters. The other movie, ‘Beanpole’ depicts post-war syndrome among women. Replying to a question, Peter Zekavica, the actor in the Russian film, ‘Abigail’ said, that as a child, he watched Ramayana on television and this helped him connect with the spiritual side of India.”
On a lighter note, ambassador Kudashev said that Russia has an Indian channel that showcases Bollywood movies on a regular basis. All the actors including Viktoria Miroshnichenko from Beanpole, Peter, Gleb Bochkov from ‘Abigail’ expressed their willingness to act in Indian movies in the future.
