Guess what! That remote, craggy island where Luke Skywalker and Rey face off in the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is a real island known as Skellig Michael, and it’s just across the pond in Ireland, off the country’s southwest coast. Not only that, but it’s actually the IRL home of an ancient Jedi Christian monastery that was built in the sixth century. Although it is hard to get to that island and thus hasn’t been visited much, Ireland’s tourism board is anticipating more visitors in light of the “Star Wars” connection.
