Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, here come the rains. Much like a blessing in disguise, after sunny summer days! With the monsoons just around the corner, here are some tips for you to buckle up.
Make the best use of all the old newspaper that has been lying around for months, to dry your shoes. Stuff newspaper balls inside and wrap the outside of footwear that take long to dry, like canvas or leather. Although you may have to change the paper from time to time, it helps soak out the moisture from the shoes. Moreover, this method is less tedious and also does not destroy the material unlike, drying shoes using blow dryers.
Although this trick has been mentioned by many, it deserves a mention once again for its miracles. If you happen to accidentally wet your treasured gadget (read cell phone) in the pouring rain, here's a sure cure! Switch off the phone and place it in a container of rice for a day or two. The rice helps absorb all the moisture from the phone. And voila! Your phone will be working again.
When you are not bound to dress formally, why not choose clothes that are more rational for a rainy season? Avoid thick clothes like suits, woolen, denims etc. Instead, pick clothes that are of a light and thin material. Not only will they dry faster while on your body, but are also more comfortable to be in till they dry off.
You can simply do away with water stains from your leather shoes by cleaning it with a wet cloth. Whereas, mud stains on your clothes will require a little more attention. First, gently scratch off the mud only after it has dried off completely. Then apply a small amount of dishwash soap on the stain and gently rub it in. Repeat the same until the stain vanishes. Once done, toss the garment into the laundry bag and wash as usual.Smelly feet are an almost unavoidable problem during the rains. Sanitise and apply perfume to your feet regularly. Avoid closed shoes, wear flip-flops and sandals. Avoid using the same shoes day after day, and alternate your shoes.
Mosquitoes are not only a major nuisance but a huge threat to our health. Keep a camphor at the entrances as they repell mosquitoes. Also, wear a mosquito repellent cream for extra protection.
