It’s been a while since we watched a good war movie. Barring Fury, starring Brad Pitt, there haven’t been too many interesting movies in recent times. But Christopher Nolan will change that. It’s going to be the movie event for 2017, in many ways that one. Dunkirk, starring a plethora of famous actors, like Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and more, is the story of the Miracle of Dunkirk, an important part of World War II. The story goes that tens of thousands of Allied soldiers were stranded on the beaches of Dunkirk, France, and surrounded by the German army. What happened next possibly helped change the course of the war, as gunships and even merchant navy and fishermen all lined up to rescue soldiers from the beach in a massive movement. If there ever was a director who could capture this massive and poignant part of history then it would have to be Christopher Nolan, who has written and directed Memento, the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar in the past decade or so. His eye for detail, this penchant for capturing stories with different points of view and his flair for the dramatic will all make this movie a must-watch. Not to mention that war movies are a class of their own, if done well. Nolan always does them well, so there.
