With the FIFA World Cup having just begun, musicians have been busy coming up with their own football anthems. And now Goa too has got it’s very own FIFA world cup song courtesy tiatrists Evarist De Arambol and Reza Prisha Fernandes.
Viva La Football was released on June 13, on the eve of the World Cup on You Tube. And the idea for the song came about because of Pradip Chodankar, who is organising his fifth consecutive World Cup exhibition at his residence.
“Pradip had invited us to perform on the opening day ceremony of the football exhibit. He requested us to compose and sing a song about the world cup, which also puts forth a prayer that one day our dreams that India will play football on the world’s biggest stage will come true,” reveals Evarist.
But coming up with a music video was not the initial plan. But moved by the lyrics and wanting to do something more to attract fans, the duo decided to shoot a video too.
The song, though in Konkani, has a few English lines and words in usage to give it an extra feel and flavour. There is a bit of rap included to give it a universal taste.
While Evarist de Arambol and Reza lent their voices, cinematography and studio recording was adeptly handled by Angelo de Mathewz. Incidentally, the track was shot and recorded at Angelo de Mathewz Muzik Doktor’z Studio, Chandor within a span of a week. “The music video features clippings of a few previous World Cup matches apart from the Goan village football played by children,” Evarist de Arambol adds.
It may come as unfortunate that Goan football legends who represented the country with pride like Brahmanand Shankwalkar do not find a mention in the track, nor are they featured in the video.
While he could not agree more, the Arambol-based artiste is quick to point out that they had very less time to do more. “Featuring some great Goan football players would have been a great idea but we were in a hurry and very short on time and thereby did not get a chance to include our football heroes,” he states.
The lyrics of the peppy track emphasizes that football flows through the bloodstream of Goans, so much so that, thoroughly engrossed in the game, children often forget their hunger and play the entire day. The lyrics also talk about how the older folk are quick on their feet at every opportunity to watch their beloved game.
The enterprising singer-songwriter from Arambol appeals to the football fans to watch the video on his You Tube channel and share it thereby spreading the vibe of Goanness.
