The political slugfest between political friends and foes over the Margao carnival was on expected lines. What, however, came as a surprise was the role played by the concerned authorities, be it the district authorities or the men-in-uniform, including the traffic police. For, it’s now clear that these authorities do not adopt an independent stand while issuing permissions in respect of routes or venues, but rather toe the line of their political masters. Indeed time for introspection when even the High Court had mandated the authorities to act independently while deciding venues and routes during carnival and other programmes. Any questions?
