Mapusa Police have registered a case against a contractor and a site engineer for alleged negligence after the collapse of an under-construction gallery projection at a construction site in Dangui Colony, Mapusa, left six labourers injured.
According to police, the offence was registered on July 23 based on a complaint filed by Head Constable Vijay Gadekar of Mapusa Police Station.
The accused have been identified as contractor Avub Ibrahim Inamdar, a resident of Pune, Maharashtra, and site engineer Gunjesh Bharat Naik, a resident of Velgum, Valpoi, Sattari.
Police said that the incident occurred on July 19 at around 12.30 pm. The contractor, who was responsible for execution of the construction work and the site engineer, who was entrusted with supervision of the project and implementation of safety measures, allegedly acted with gross negligence and failed to discharge their duty of care towards the labourers working at the site.
Their alleged negligence resulted in the collapse of an under-construction gallery projection, causing injuries to six workers.
The injured have been identified as Durgesh Lalan Parasa (18), Mohammad Hossain Ali (26), Habibur Rehman (34), Nasim Ali (30), Binod Kumar Prasad (40) and Mohammad Rakiul Khan (35), all residing at M.A. Reality, Dangui Colony, Mapusa.
Police said five of the injured workers were treated at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, and later discharged, while Mohammad Rakiul Khan continues to undergo treatment.
Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Sections 125, 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Notices have been issued to both the accused.
