The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Panaji, has detained a Russian national for allegedly overstaying in India for nearly eight years and violating visa conditions by performing paid dance shows in Goa.
Official sources revealed to The Goan that the woman was detained on Friday from a rented accommodation in Parra during an operation by the FRRO staff. “The Russian national had entered India on a business visa and initially completed the mandatory registration formalities. However, she allegedly failed to apply for the appropriate visa thereafter and continued to remain in the country illegally,” the source said.
During the inquiry, the FRRO found that she had allegedly been performing dance shows at hotels and restaurants in Goa and receiving payment for the performances, in violation of the conditions of her visa.
Following her detention, the woman was lodged at the Detention Centre in Mapusa pending further legal and deportation proceedings.
