A week after the defection by the eight Congress candidates, one question remains unanswered – whether a total of nine MLAs were on the list to embrace the saffron brigade after quitting the Congress? For, if sources are to be believed, the eight MLAs had reportedly waited for close to 45 minutes, anxiously waiting for the ninth MLA to join them before they went ahead with the merger. With the Congress left with just three MLAs now, questions are being raised about who amongst the trio was to join the eight-member group in the BJP.
Luizinho silent; local politicos question his future in TMC
Local political circles are abuzz with reports over the future of Rajya Sabha MP Luizinhbab Faleiro in the Trinamool Congress Party. Luchel Camino de Monte, the Borda residence of Luizinhbab, however, is silent on the MP’s future, neither confirming nor denying reports whether the party wants him to quit as Rajya Sabha MP or whether he is on his way out of the Mamata Didi-led party. Questions are indeed being raised about whether Luizinhbab, who had raised a host of issues plaguing Goa in Parliament, will continue to remain in the Rajya Sabha till the next session. Will he or won’t he merge the Goa Forward party in the Congress in the coming days, is a question doing the rounds in Saxtti countryside over the last week. What has further fueled speculations was that Vijaibab has neither denied nor confirmed the reports of Goa Forward’s merger with Congress. How the issue of Goa Forward’s merger suddenly came to the fore remains unknown, but sources pointed out that reports started doing the rounds in political circles following Goa Congress observer Dinesh Gundu Rao’s visit to the State. Wait and watch as Vijaibab has maintained the regional party will take a call on the merger once a proposal comes from Delhi.
BJP means biz in MMC with ouster of GF-backed chief
The ouster of beleaguered Goa Forward-backed Margao Municipal Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar within a week has sent a message loud and clear that the saffron brigade is capable of striking back at opponents. If Goa Forward party-backed councillors were housed in a villa in North Goa to avert any poaching bid by the ruling dispensation, the BJP-backed City Fathers were all accommodated at a starred resort in North Goa. Margao’s changing political equations felt in Fatorda
The changing political equations in Margao following the exit of Diggu from the Congress could be felt in neighbouring Fatorda. Perhaps for the first time in 17 years, Diggu and former Fatorda BJP MLA Damubab Naik were seen together in saffron scarves at a health camp. While the health camp was organised by Diggu’s Model Margao, both Diggu and Damubab came for the inauguration in saffron scarves, indicating the changing equations on the ground post-defections.
