Congress workers attending a party programme in the city earlier this week were surprised to find only the first time young MLAs from down South turning up for the event. MLAs Sankalpbab Amonkar, Yuribab Alemao and Altonbab D’Costa had all turned up for the programme. Party heavyweights from down South Diggu and Aleixobab Sequeira, however, were conspicuous by their absence, raising questions amongst the party rank and file whether the party programmes are only intended for the young blood. Indeed a time for introspection.
Vijai-Cong young leaders’ bonhomie
With the ensuing Assembly session beginning from the coming week, political observers have been trying to figure out whether Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai has teamed-up with Congress MLAs from down South, including Altonbab D’Costa. For, sources say that Vijaibab, Altonbab and another Congress MLA were huddled together last week, apparently to discuss and decide on the questions to be tabled in the Assembly in the ensuing session. Sounds interesting, isn’t it, when Vijaibab had shared a perfect rapport with Congress seniors including Diggu and Aleixobab over the years.
Will Venzy’s resolution for dhirios find favour?
Capt Venzybab Viegas was back in the news this week, but for a different reason. Representing a constituency where dhirios is a sport and a passion, the Benaulim MLA has tabled a private member resolution in the Goa Legislative Assembly to legalise bull fights. In the past, MP Francisbab Sardinha had tabled a similar resolution in the Lok Sabha, but in vain. Discussions on legalising dhirios must have taken place on umpteen occasions in the Assembly in the past. Will the Captain’s latest initiative bear fruit? Wait and watch.

It was a week when Varca strongman finally returned home after holidaying in the Gulf. He is learnt to have descended back home on a day when arch rival Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas and officials of the disaster management cell were at the Tolleabandh water body at Benaulim with boats for a flood inspection. The former MLA was believed to have monitored the flood situation in Benaulim through his close aides before he landed back home. A strong votary of desilting of river Sal, wait and watch if Churchillbab has any answer to the flooding in Benaulim this monsoons.
BJP planning to strengthen party in Curtorim
The saffron brigade seems anxious to strengthen the party in Curtorim, notwithstanding that the local Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has extended his support to the BJP-led government. If sources are to be believed, a couple of local political leaders from Curtorim constituency are bracing up to embrace the saffron brigade. BJP Curtorim candidate Anthony Barbosa is believed to have told his aides to unveil the party’s future plan. Wait till next week for the political developments to unfold in the constituency.
