It was a week when speculations were rife that the irrepressible Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has quit the Congress Coordination panel. That Reginaldo later denied the reports as just rumours was another thing. Sources, however, say the three-time MLA is unhappy with the functioning of the panel and its objective. Having given his consent for his appointment as the panel vice chairman, Reginaldo has told his aides the party has only rubbed salt on the wounds of Congressmen like him demanding a change in leadership.
Cong has task at hand in Nuvem
Young Turks from Nuvem constituency have shot a poser for GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar -- whether Nuvem will fit in the scheme of things over his announcement that 70-80 per cent of the Assembly tickets will go to new faces in the 2022 Assembly election. This question assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of a determined bid by party heavyweight Aleixobab Sequeira to make a comeback in Nuvem. The young Turks are believed to have received no reply from Congress leaders over the ticket, but they have all vowed not to rest till the ticket is given for a young face. Wait and watch.
Pratima takes on the Kumpars
It was a week when Congress-turned-AAP mahila leader Pratimabai returned to Navelim to take on Kumpars “ Navelim MLA Luizinhbab Faleiro and his Benaulim counterpart Churchillbab Alemao. More than a fortnight after she lost the Navelim ZP by-poll and later quit the Congress after blaming the Navelim MLA for not working for her success, Pratimbai was in Navelim to hit two political birds with a single stone. That she took up cudgels for farmers demanding restoration of the once pictueresque Salpem lake and the adjoining contaminated river Sal, indicates AAP’s agenda in Navelim and Benaulim.
Old guards stand by performance & not age
They may be in their 70s, but are into active politics. While South Goa MP Franciscbab Sardinha celebrated his birthday earlier this week, Varca strongman Bab Churchill will be doing so in May. Both the MP and Benaulim MLA, however, are not ready to believe that age is a bar for politicians like them to quit politics. While the younger lot amongst the political class do not stop taunting them grandfathers, the duo maintain that performance and not age, ought to be the factor deciding the fate of the elected representatives. Digambar, Vijai unveil manifestos separately
Madgavkars and Fatordekars are trying to figure out why Margao MLA Diggu and his Fatorda counterpart Vijaibab Sardesai unveiled their election manifestos separately when the duo have forged the Margao Civic Alliance to fight the ensuing Margao Municipal polls. This question has assumed significance against the backdrop of the fact that last time round, the duo had jointly released the MCA manifesto. It further assumes significance given that the duo had told the media while reviving the MCA that the alliance would soon launch the election manifesto. Sounds surprising, isn’t it?
