Ambelim Sports Club edged past St Anthony SC, Assolda 1-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the Holy Cross inter-village football tournament at Vodlemoll Kakoda ground on Wednesday.
Ambelim netted the winner when Samson took a freekick, which got a deflection off Assolda's Elton and landed into the net in the 60th minute.
Arlem YA power into semifinals
Arlem Youth Association beat Margao SC 8-2 and advanced to the semifinals of Our Lady of Assumpta Cup inter-village football tournament at Church ground, Chinchinim Wednesday.
Joyston netted a brace for Arlem, scoring in the 1st and 6th minutes. Danny then netted a hat-trick (13th, 16th and 20th minutes) while Lloyd, Sweden and Delon netted a goal each in the 23rd, 26th and 30th minute, respectively. For Margao, Sheridan (36th) and Prestly (40th) netted a goal each.
Varca SC down Goa Velha 3-1
Varca SC beat Goa Velha 3-1 and moved into the quarterfinal of the AYA Rolling Trophy tournament at Raia Panchayat ground on Wednesday.
Jobern Carvalho opened the scoring for Varca in the 20th minute. Ten minutes later, Kunal Kundaikar equalised for Goa Velha. Varca netted two more goals through Aaron Barretto and Yunal Fernandes in the 45th and 50th minute respectively to make it 3-1.
'United We Play' trials held in Goa
PANAJI: Leading tyre maker Apollo Tyres, in association with Manchester United, successfully held the trials for the third season of their flagship grassroots football programme 'United We Play' in Goa on Wednesday.
The initiative, which aims to encourage young footballing talent, saw an overwhelming response from budding footballers of the State. Over 630 youngsters participated in the trials, which were held at St Anthony High School and Sinquetim Sports Complex.
Among them, 60 talented footballers will participate in the next phase of the trials, which will be held in Mumbai early next month. The best talent from across locations will participate in the grand finale of the competition and winners will get a trip to Manchester, with several experiential activities at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United.
Sesa Goa organises football summer camp
Vedanta Sesa Goa organised a 10-day football summer camp for the students of classes 6 to 9 of Govt. High School Navelim.
The camp saw the participation of around 60 girls and boys from the area. The prime objective of the camp was to scout budding talent and groom them through grassroots training programmes to help them excel in football.
Throughout the camp, students were trained and guided by experienced coaches from Sesa Football Academy, which provided an opportunity for aspiring students to hone their skills in football.
