Goa Mavericks Sports Club, teaming up with Wellesley Partners, hosted their second All-Goa U-14 Six-a-side hockey tournament for young talents at the Peddem sports complex in Mapusa recently.
The boys' competition saw 5 teams battle it out, with Fr Agnel's HS, Pilar, clinching the top spot after a final showdown with Janata HS, Mapusa. In the girls' division, where 9 teams participated, St. Anthony HS, Duler, emerged victorious, defeating Govt HS, Honda.
Individual brilliance shone through as well. Bishal Nayak from Fr Agnel's HS, Pilar, was recognized as the best boy player and highest scorer. Janata HS's Hassan Khan earned the best boy goalkeeper award for his courageous performance. For the girls, Hansika Chikke from St. Anthony HS, Duler, took home both the best player and highest scorer titles, while her teammate Sonakshi Jha was named the best girl goalkeeper.
Adding to the accolades, Aaradhya Nayak, also from St. Anthony HS, Duler, received a special award as the most promising young player. Other notable players who left their mark included Remanta Pariyar (Janata HS), Chatali Chavan (St. Anthony HS, Duler), and Jovita Cunha (Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar).
The gleaming trophies and medals were presented by Sourabh Chattopadhyay, CEO of Wellesley Partners.
The tournament also championed sustainability by minimizing plastic waste. This was achieved through the use of biodegradable packaging for snacks and food and by providing drinking water via dispensers instead of single-use plastic bottles.
