Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Sunday inaugurated the Village Panchayat Davorlim Dicarpale Zoriwaddo Sports Complex, constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, on Sunday.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Y Tuenkar, Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Davorlim ZP Paresh Naik and ex-minister Avertano Furtado were present on the occasion. The sports complex will help sports aficionados of the region, which has produced many national and international-level players. The sports complex will play a key role in developing the sports ecosystem, particularly for football, the sports minister said.
Gaude said that the amenities at the ground will play a key role for budding sportspersons and urged them to work with dedication and hard work to fulfil their dreams. He appealed to churches, temples, mosques and NGOs to create awareness about hard work and shun from flocking after government jobs. "In today's world, a sportsperson dazzles if he works hard and can bring laurels to the country," he said. The sports minister said that help will be provided to villages in constructing playgrounds and for the upgradation of sports facilities.
Navelim MLA Tuenkar appealed to the students to take up sports as government provides the good facilities to athletes. He said after missing a couple of deadlines, two grounds were constructed in Davorlim.
Velim MLA Silva thanked the Panchayat for providing ground to unearth sporting talents. Fr Domingos Noronha, Parish Priest of Davorlim Church, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, Parish Priest of Dicarpale Church, Herculano Niasso, Sarpanch of Dicarpale and Panchas were present.
