GVM’s GGPR College of Commerce and Economics, a leading educational institution in Ponda, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Karuna Football Foundation to foster the growth of physical education and sports among its students and staff members.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the two sides. The agreement was endorsed by the college principal Dr Teotone Vaz and Milton Fernandes, trustee of Karuna Football Foundation’s Compassion FC, in the presence of Dr Meera Mayekar, vice-principal of the college, and Betty D’Silva, the college director of physical education

"This collaboration is aimed at enhancing the significance of physical education and sports, contributing to the holistic development of students and staff members. As part of the partnership's initiation, wellness evaluation tests were conducted on several senior staff members of the college. This initiative will be extended to encompass all teaching and non-teaching staff members as well as students of the college in the near future," it was announced in a press release.

Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal, an esteemed educational group with a legacy spanning over 110 years, has been providing quality education from school to professional higher education in the Ponda region and has cultivated a reputation for excellence and is home to thousands of students across various educational levels.

The partnership's primary impact will be felt within the underprivileged communities, as the Karuna Football Foundation’s Compassion FC boasts a history of collaborations with international organisations across Asia and Africa. A frontrunner in sports-related initiatives including being GFA’s leading women’s football club, it is involved in volleyball and athletics as winners of several State championships.

"The foundation is dedicated to promoting sports within rural areas, particularly in and around Ponda Taluka. This endeavour acts as a vital feeder to GVM institutions, nurturing potential talent and encouraging sports development at the grassroots level.

"The collaboration between GVM’s GGPR College of Commerce and Economics and the Karuna Football Foundation signifies a remarkable step towards fostering physical education, sports, and community development in Goa. Both parties are committed to realising their shared vision of empowering individuals through sports and physical wellness," the release said.
