MARGAO
A hat-trick by Hanslum Furtado enabled Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda to ease past Ambelim SC 5-1 to move into the final of the 24th Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side football tournament.
In the semifinal played at the Chinchinim Church ground on Saturday, the Fatorda lads pumped in five goals with Ambelim netting a consolation goal from the spot. The winners scored through Hanslum Fernandes (3rd 46th, and 70th minutes), Milton Barreto (22nd), and Francis Andrade (68th). Velroy reduced the margin for Ambelim in the 62nd minute from the spot kick awarded when Joylex Vaz blocked a free kick with his hand. The winners led 2-0 at halftime.
Fatorda opened the account when Hanslum headed home three minutes into the game. Milton Barreto created Fatorda's first and scored the second himself after stealing a ball from rival defender Gillestin Rebello to put his name on the scoreboard.
Three minutes into the game, Milton essayed a lob into the Ambelim goal and the lanky Fatorda star Hanslum rose above the defence and headed home. Ambelim keeper Ozen managed to get his fingers to the ball which entered the nets after hitting the left post. The creator of Fatorda's first goal Milton buttressed the lead in the 22nd minute.
Crossing over Ambelim fought valiantly in search of an equaliser missing several chances. Hanslum got his second and rounded off his tally in injury time with Francis Andrade scoring Fatorda's 4th past the hour mark.
DBO Fatorda will meet Navelim Villagers Union in the final on August 15. Holders Navelim Villagers beat Maina SC 2-1 in the other semifinal. Clinton Niasso (20th minute) and Nevin Pereira (64th minute) scored for Navelim while Milagres Fernandes found the net for Maina in the 29th minute. The teams were level 1-1 at halftime.
