Loyola HS win Da Costa Memorial Trophy

Loyola HS Margao overcame Perpetual Convent Navelim 4-2 via the tiebreaker in the final to win the Late Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa Memorial Inter School Under-16 five-a-side football tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in collaboration with The Base Goa at The Base Goa, Seraulim.

The teams were level 2-2 at the end of regulation time. Loyola H.S opened the account through Ashnoy, who scored off a pass from Keith in the 5th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Alden found the net off a direct free kick to give Loyola a 2-0 lead. At the interval, Loyola led 2-0.

Perpetual Succour then rallied to score in the 34 minute as Hayston found the net. Perpetual scored once again through Hayston off a free kick the 34th minute. In the tiebreaker, Loyola proved to be better shooters, scoring through Keith and Nathan.

Benaulim MLA Capt Venzy Viegas was the chief guest for the finals, while Fr Benjamin Sacramafilia, Parish Priest, was the guest of honour and gave away the prizes. Capt Nitin Dhond and Vernon Pinto were special invitees.

PANAJIDevesh Anand Naik secured a hat-trick of titles at All Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association.Devesh was in sole lead by ½ point ahead of Joy Kakodkar after the penultimate round and needed just another ½ point in the final round to clinch the title. Joy was the only contestant in the final round with 7 points who could stop Devesh as they clashed in the decisive round but the match ended in a draw, handing Devesh a third title…
