Verna Veterans thrash Campal 4-0

Verna Veterans routed Campal Veterans 4-0 and moved into the next round of the GVFC Veterans football tournament organised by GVFC at Sinquetim ground, Navelim on Monday.

Jerose Oliveira of Verna Veterans was the star of the match while Campal Veterans' Victor Lobo was a standout performer for his team. Mariano Rebello of Verna Veterans netted the first goal with a placement shot off a Jerose Oliveira pass in the 6th minute.

Thereafter Francis Andrade shot wide for Verna and Victor Lobo missed chances to score for Campal. Vincent Barbosa of Verna Veterans also shot wide. Francis Andrade of Verna shot from close range to make it 2-0 in the 27th minute.

In the second half, Victor Lobo's shot hit the Verna crossbar and went out of play. An attempt by Michael Dias of Campal hit the post in the 48th minute. Verna netted the third goal through Mariano Rebello in the 58th minute before Jerose Oliveira made it 4-0 with a few minutes left for the final whistle.

St Anthony down Vagator PY, reach semis
St Anthony Marna, Siolim blanked Vagator Parish Youth SC 3-1 to move into the semifinals of the FC Tuem Champions Trophy first inter-village football tournament, organised by FC Tuem in association with CAM Group of Companies at DSYA ground, Tuem, on Monday.

Kanaya Govenkar of St Anthony Marna was the star of the match as he pumped in three goals for his team. He scored his first goal in the 11th minute. In the 15th minute, Vagator’s C Virnodkar’s long-range shot found the back of the net of the Marna goal. In the 27th minute, St Anthony’s Saideep Pomburphekar’s shot hit the crossbar. The teams went into the breather with the score tied at 1-1.

Post resumption, both teams played some attacking football. In the 57th minute, Kanaya of St Anthony was brought down by Mohammed Adur inside the penalty area and referee Milagres Fernandes awarded a penalty. Kanaya himself stepped up and converted the spot kick. In the 63rd minute, Kanaya completed his hat-trick by scoring a well-placed goal. St Anthony will now play semifinals on October 20.

GFA asks clubs to pay competition entry fees
Goa Football Association has urged its affiliated clubs to pay competition entry fees in time so as to avoid being excluded from competition draws. "The GFA has noticed that many affiliated clubs have not paid the competition entry fees, so they are requested to pay it by October 15. Thereafter, entry fees will not be accepted and the competition draws will be prepared on the basis of entry fees received as the competitions are starting shortly," the GFA said in a press release.
