MARGAO
I-League Second Division club FC Bengaluru United have roped in Goan defender George D’Souza, according to reports.
The left-back arrives at the club on loan from Indian Super League side Odisha FC. The 27-year-old has been brought in with preparations for the I-League Qualifiers in mind, which are being held in September later this year.
“George D’Souza has signed with FCBU, on a loan deal from Odisha FC,” sports website 'Khel Now' quoted a source as saying.
George will look to take this opportunity to get more minutes on the pitch since he did not get enough chances last year. He only featured for two games, clocking in 171 minutes of game-time. The Sesa Football Academy graduate will look to impress the management of his parent club to make a better case for a regular starting position.
The defender started his professional career in 2016 by signing for Sporting Clube de Goa. He impressed for the Flaming Oranje in the Goa Professional League, featuring in 20 games for the team as he scored four goals and provided three assists.
After his impressive performances for Sporting Clube, he joined Odisha FC ahead of the 2020-21 season. It will be interesting to see how Richard Hood, the tactician at Bengaluru United, uses D’Souza. The qualifiers will take place in Bengaluru, therefore home advantage should help the team.
