Union of Chinchinim Villagers stormed into the quarterfinals of the 3rd Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament with a resounding 6-1 victory over Goa Velha SC at the Chinchinim Church ground on Sunday. The tournament is organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers.
Right from kick-off, Chinchinim dominated proceedings, with Goa Velha’s goalkeeper pulling off two quick saves to keep the slate clean. The breakthrough, however, came soon after as Sherio Gomes fired home from the edge of the box to open the account.
Sherio doubled the advantage in the 17th minute before Rowan netted in the 19th to make it 3-0. Goa Velha pulled one back through Bhavesh Gauns, reducing the margin to 3-1 at the break.
The second half belonged entirely to Chinchinim. Sherio completed his hat-trick in the 23rd minute before Om Raikar and Rowan piled on the misery for Goa Velha, sealing a comfortable 6-1 win.
For his standout performance, hat-trick hero Sherio Gomes was named Player of the Match.
Monday’s quarterfinal fixture will see Guardian Angel SC take on Navelim SC.
