MARGAO
Sporting Clube de Goa have appointed Levino Anthony Pereira, former coach of Salgaocar Football Club, as their head coach.
Pereira brings with him a wealth of experience, having coached the Goa Santosh Trophy team twice besides the coaching stints at Salgaocar and Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao (as head coach) and Sporting Clube de Goa (as assistant coach). In his playing career, he turned out for Dempo Engineering, Anderson Marine, Sesa Sports Club, Churchill Brothers, Mahindra United and Salgaocar FC.
Speaking on his appointment, Pereira said, “It excites me that India has a growing interest in football and that I can be part of that movement. I want to contribute to the process of bringing Goan football higher and the way to do that is to create players who can represent the national team of India.
"We want the players who can take the next step, and make sure they succeed. The bar is set high, and I think we can make a programme where players develop together,” said Pereira, an A-licensed coach.
"The pathway from the team is the most difficult one, so we will have to support the potential first-team players in that phase. We believe that the right way to grow as a club is to have homegrown players, and we are convinced that the direction the club wants to take is the right one,” added Pereira.
Pereira said, “I’m excited to take up this opportunity at Sporting Clube de Goa as I believe it is a great challenge for me at this stage in my career as a coach. The foundation of many teams in the country is built around players from this region and I am excited about the talent," he signed off.
