Quepem Veterans beat Sao Jose de Areal Veterans 6-4 via the tiebreaker to win the Rosary Cup Veterans football tournament played at Davorlim Sports Club ground, on Sunday.
Alvito D’Cunha gave the lead to Quepem which was cancelled out by Seby Faleiro for Sao Jose de Areal Veterans. Alvito completed his hat-trick in the second session. Jerry Colaco scored the fourth goal for Quepem. Mario Rebello scored the second goal for Areal Veterans. In the tiebreaker, Quepem Veterans proved to be better shooters. The winners Quepem Veterans were awarded Rs 40,000 while Sao Jose de Areal Veterans were awarded Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Cumborda win Vicente Memorial football title
Cumborda won the 1st Vicente Memorial football tournament by defeating Bhatti 3-1 in the finals of the tournament organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim.
Cumborda scored first goal through Myrick Hilario in the 14th minute before Mackson Fernandes made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Bhatti got on the board through a self-goal by Cumborda defender Myrick. In the second half, Cumborda scored the third goal through Mackson Fernandes in the 55th minute, 3-1.
Rossman Cruz win Dando tourney
Rossman Cruz beat United Club of Serulim 1-0 to secure the championship trophy of the inter-village football tournament organised at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Sunday. Necio was the sole scorer of the game, capitalising on a through pass delivered by Desmond. Valanka Alemao, chairperson of women’s committee of AIFF, was the chief guest and awarded the prizes along with other dignitaries.
Dunes move into title clash
Dunes Sports Club blanked Sao Jose de Areal SC 6-0 to enter the final of the Festival Cup inter-village football tournament played at Betalbatim Panchayat ground. Dalvin Coelho scored a hat-trick, scoring in the 20th, 25th and 55th minutes while Arun Naik, Albert Britto and Anthony Lobo netted a goal each for Dunes SC. Dunes will now meet Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda in th final on August 27.
Ved shines at karate championship
PANAJI: Goa Karate and Fitness Centre, affiliated to Okinawa Martial Arts Academy Japan Karate Shotokai - India, in association with Shree Saibaba Seva Mandal Trust, Avedem-Borim organised a Karate Kata Championship on Sunday at Shree Saibaba Temple Hall, Avedem-Borim, Ponda.
The championship had three categories: Individual Kata, Team Kata and Weapon Kata. Ved Devendra Akarkar secured first place in Individual Kata and also in Team Kata and was awarded with a gold medal and an appreciation certificate. He was trained by chief instructor Surekha Kunkoliyekar.
