Guirdolim Club registered an emphatic 4-1 win over St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva in a high-octane encounter of the Anil Kamat Memorial football tournament, organised by Enfermos Sports Club at the Chinchinim Church Ground.
The match started at a blistering pace, with Joaquim Carvalho giving Guirdolim an early lead in the 8th minute. St Anthony’s nearly responded through Riston Gomes four minutes later, but his powerful strike narrowly missed the target.
Guirdolim’s Valentino Carvalho had a chance to double the advantage in the 15th minute, but his shot went wide. St Anthony’s forward Kabir Khan had two promising opportunities — in the 16th and 20th minutes — both thwarted, the first by a superb save from Guirdolim goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues.
The Colva side continued to press, and a header from Conrad Fernandes in the 25th minute, following a sharp cross by Samson Gomes, went just wide. Guirdolim’s Mario Fernandes tested the opposition keeper in the 28th minute, but the St Anthony’s custodian kept his side in the game.
After the break, Guirdolim Club took firm control. Valentino Carvalho struck a stunning direct goal in the 31st minute, followed by a clinical finish from Mario Fernandes in the 35th to make it 3-0.
St Anthony’s managed to pull one back through Cane Fernandes in the 49th minute, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed just three minutes later when Richard Fernandes netted Guirdolim’s fourth goal, sealing a commanding 4-1 win.
Goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues stood out with several key saves that helped Guirdolim maintain momentum throughout the match.
