Betalbatim Sports Club produced a dominant display to defeat United Club of Verna 4-0 and storm into the quarter-finals of the 25th Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Football Tournament at Musson Grounds, Majorda, on Sunday.
Proson Mondal led the charge with a brace, while Rian Asampur and Pletson Braganza scored a goal each to complete a convincing victory.
Betalbatim made an explosive start when Proson opened the scoring with a spectacular long-range effort from around 25 yards. His powerful strike crashed against the far post before finding the net, leaving Verna goalkeeper Joson Vaz with no chance.
Betalbatim continued to threaten, with Ashley Fernandes and Proson combining effectively down the right flank. Proson had the ball in the net again following an Ashley cross, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Verna had an opportunity to draw level through Hilton Fernandes, whose free kick struck the defensive wall. He collected the rebound but sent his second attempt wide.
Betalbatim created further chances through Proson and Rian Asampur but could not add to their lead before the break.
The second half saw Betalbatim maintain their attacking intensity. Rian doubled the advantage after capitalising on a defensive lapse, advancing into the box before calmly slotting the ball past Joson.
Pletson then made it 3-0 with an effort that bounced awkwardly in front of the goalkeeper. Although Joson got a hand to the ball, he could not prevent it from crossing the line.
Verna struggled to find a response, with Betalbatim's defence remaining organised. Their goalkeeper also reacted smartly to thwart a dangerous move after a misplaced pass left his side momentarily exposed.
Proson completed the rout with his second goal, collecting the ball on the right, entering the penalty area and calmly beating the advancing goalkeeper.
Proson was adjudged Man of the Match for his influential performance. The award was presented by former footballer and businessman John Gonsalves.
