Calangute Veterans hammer Mitre to advance

Calangute Veterans thumped Mitre Veterans 4-0 to move into the next round of the POGO Boys 50 plus Veterans Cup, organised by POGO Boys, Merces at Our Lady of Merces Church ground, Merces on Friday.

Calangute Veterans netted a brace through Agustin while Raymond and Rafiq netted a goal each. In another match, Vasco Veterans beat Verna Veterans 3-1 via the tiebreaker and moved into the next round.

Nelson opened the scoreline for Vasco Veterans in the tenth minute. Three minutes later, Vincent of Verna Veterans equalised. In the tiebreaker, Vasco Veterans proved to be the better shooters.

Rossman Cruz reach quarterfinals

Rossman Cruz Nagoa Verna defeated Navelim Sporting 1-0 to sail into the quaterfinals of Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr Drunstan and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.

In the beginning, both teams played attacking football. In the fifth minute, Navelim's Clinton Niasso missed an easy sitter. The match was goalless at the lemon break. In the second half in the 48th minute, Imamsab gave Rossman Cruz the lead after receiving a inch-perfect cross from Hilton Fernandes, 1-0.

Later, a powerful shot by Clinton was punched away by Verna keeper Schubert Moniz but it hit the post before the keeper collected it. At the fag end of the match, Navelim put pressure in search of a leveller but in vain as a curling shot by Navelim's Joyston Coutinho missed the target by inches.

Damodar HSS U-19 sepak takraw champs

Damodar Higher Secondary School, Guddi, Paroda won the zone IV U-19 sepak takraw boys championship, defeating Shiroda Higher Secondary School, Shiroda 21-16, 21-19 in the final, played at Sports complex, Borimol, Quepem.

Earlier in the semifinals, Damodar HSS defeated Guardian Angel HSS 21-6, 21-10. Meanwhile, Shiroda HSS, Shiroda defeated Cuncolim United HSS, Cuncolim 21-14, 21-14.
