Sao Jose de Areal defeated CAC Cansaulim 1-0 and moved into the quarterfinal of the Cavelossim Panchayat Rolling Trophy Inter-Village football tournament sponsored by Cavelossim Panchayat and organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at Fr Druston & Wellington Ground, Cavelossim.
Both the teams played attacking football and tries by Cidroy D’Souza and Agnelo D’Souza were well saved by Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro.
The first half ended goalless.
In the second half, a cross by Elvino Fernandes of CAC Cansaulim to Agnelo D’Souza whose header missed the cross bar by a few inches. Areal responded immediately with a goal by Priston Gomendes who latched on to a through pass by Rayman Fernandes to give Areal 1-0 lead.
There after it was all Cansaulim attacking the Areal citadel time and again, however forward Agnelo, Rahul and Elvino Fernandes missed successive golden opportunities to level the score.
Rayman Fernandes of San Jose de Areal was adjudged man of the match.
