Chandor shootout Sarzora

Chandor Club shunted out Sarzora Sports Club 6-5 via tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of All Goa Cuncolim Union Rolling Trophy inter village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government School play grounds, Cuncolim on Wednesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation period.

Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Alton Menezes gave Sarzora a dream start scoring in the very 4th minute when Dolwin Costa gave a through pass to Alton Menezes and the latter punted the ball to the far corner of the net . Unfazed, Chandor Club went into attacking mode and four minutes later Joston Martins unleashed a volley which gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper David Rebello to put his team on equal terms. Both the teams upped their ante with attacking football and both the teams had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt-edged chances.

Post resumption, both the teams adopted aggressive approach and there were many thirlls at both ends. Chandor Club came close in striking the match winner but Joston Miranda frittered away from close range with only rival goalkeeper to beat. At the other end, Sarzora did not lag behind as they launched a barrage of attacks and Alton Menezes and Dolvin Costa fumbled at crucial moments .

In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Cruz Gomes, Moses D'Sa, Joston Martins, Darren Fernandes and Stanley Hadangali were on target for Chandor Club while Steflon D'Costa, Haden Cardozo, Dolvin Costa and Alton Menezes found the mark for Sarzora Sports Club.

The Goan NetworkPanajiTri Goa Foundation, a trust promoted by Rajesh Malhotra of ProByk, Panaji will organise its first 400 km 'Brevets De Randonneur Mondiaux (BRMs) in Goa on Saturday, January 21.The Brevet starts at 5am (Jan 21) and ends at 8 am (Jan 22) at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
