MARGAO
A second half strike by Vinak Korgaonkar helped Chapora Yuva Sangh pip Nerul Sports Club 1-0 and be crowned the champions of North Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter village football tournament, organised by Saligao United, in a pulsating final at Duler Stadium, Mapusa
on Saturday.
Chapora dominated the proceedings and enjoyed the more ball possession. They got the first major chance in the 10th minue when Maruthi Harijan and Samuel combined well but the latter failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one
situation.
Chapora squandered another easy chance in the 15tn minute when Rohan Kambli went past a couple of defenders but his final try sailed over the crossbar. At the other end, Nerul came close to surge ahead in the 25th minute when Paul received the ball from his own half and his stiff shot was well saved by rival goalkeeper Sona
Korgaonkar.

Nerul went all out in search of an equaliser, but just didn’t pack enough punch to find the leveller.
