Churchill Brothers suffered a 0-4 defeat to defending champions East Bengal FC in their Indian Super League 2026-27 clash at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday.
After opening their campaign with an encouraging 2-1 victory over Mumbai City FC, Churchill Brothers were brought back to earth as East Bengal produced a clinical performance to register the biggest win of the season so far.
Dani Ramírez gave East Bengal the lead with a superb free-kick in the second minute, curling a left-footed effort from outside the box into the top-left corner.
Churchill Brothers responded with greater attacking intent and created opportunities to draw level, even hitting the woodwork. However, they could not find a way past East Bengal’s defence.
The visitors doubled their lead towards the end of the first half when David Hmar picked out Edmund Lalrindika with a pass from the left. Lalrindika made a timely run into the box and finished past goalkeeper Sayad Kadir.
Churchill Brothers tried to fight their way back after the break but struggled to convert their chances, while East Bengal remained organised and disciplined.
Substitute Bipin Singh put the result beyond doubt with a curling effort in the 85th minute before completing his brace five minutes later, converting PV Vishnu’s cross from the left.
The defeat leaves Churchill Brothers with plenty to ponder ahead of their next fixture against Punjab FC next week, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing outing against the defending champions.
