Parrikar seeks report from police of those with a history of creating disturbances and indulging in acts of violence

Taking a serious view of an armed attack on tourists in Merces on Wednesday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar directed the police department to initiate strict action against history sheeters in the State, on priority.
The village of Merces witnessed an ugly turn of events when a petty issue turned into a violent outbreak where swords were brandished. Four local men with criminal past were identified in the attack on a 50-member Mumbai family at Merces.
The statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office reads: “In view of the attack on a tourist bus at Merces on June 14, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has called for a report from Goa Police seeking extensive information and statistics on individuals and groups of individuals with a history of creating disturbances and indulging in acts of violence in the state. Chief Minister has directed the police to take strict action against all history sheeters on priority.”

Expressing concern over the incident, Parrikar said that he would hold police inspectors responsible for incidents that occur within their jurisdiction.
Speaking at a function, Parrikar said, “What happened yesterday (Wednesday) in Merces is not a very positive event. I have directed the police to crack down on all such incidents. I will hold the concerned PI responsible if such goonadaism happens in their jurisdiction. This is connivance and casualness of some of the policemen. Police force has to become tough.”
