Cricketers, friends and well-wishers bid adieu to former Ranji player Rajesh Ghodge, who died on Sunday after he collapsed on the playing field at the Rajendra Prasad stadium, Margao.
His mortal remains were first taken to the Rajendra Prasad stadium on Monday before the last rites were performed at the Pajifond crematorium. At the Rajendra Prasad stadium, present and former cricketers, including Ranji players, lined up to pay their last respects as his mortal remains were carried on the playing field. The players raised cricket bats as a guard of honour to Rajesh, who was closely associated with the Margao Cricket
Club (MCC).
A number of Ranji players and players associated with the MCC, paid their respects to Rajesh at the MCC ground as well as the Pajifond crematorium. TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat were amongst the people who paid their respects to the departed cricketer.
Rajesh died on Sunday noon after he collapsed at the non-striker’s end at the MCC ground during a tournament amongst the players associated with the MCC. He was immediately rushed to the nearby ESI hospital, but was shifted to a city-based private hospital after his condition deteriorated, where he breathed his last.
Among others who paid their respects was GCA president Suraj Lotlikar, secretary Daya Pagi, treasurer Jamir Carol, former GCA presidents Chetan Desai and Vinod Fadke, besides prominent Ranji players, Sharad Pednekar, Swapnil Asnodkar, Keanen Vaz and Amogh Desai. GCA players from U-19, U-16 and U-13 teams also paid
their respects.
