CANACONA

A 14-wheeler trailer container transporting electrical goods fell on its side at Partagal completely blocking the NH-66 road early Tuesday morning.

Authorities, having no option had to cut trees and bushes to make an alternate route at Gimnem section of Partagal in, Poinguinim village, to cross over on either sides thus restoring the highway traffic only past 10 am as the large vehicle laid fallen till late Tuesday night.

According to police sources, the trailer bearing registration number GJ-05 BV-8597 carrying electrical goods like GenSets, etc was proceeding from Verna to Chennai and while negotiating a slight turn near Gimnem hit a roadside mango-tree and fell on its side entirely blocking the highway.

The position of the fallen vehicle was such that it blocked the road in such a manner, that except for 2-wheelers neither light nor heaving traffic could cross over. The incident occurred at about 5 am, and as the traffic halted abruptly, serpentine lines of motor-vehicles kept on increasing on either sides. Blocked traffic almost reach Poinguinim Bazaar, (Karwar side), while traffic towards, Karwar was struggling till Ordhofond.

The internal roads towards Khawat as well as Hathipal, were of no use to divert the traffic, and only option of a temporary road was mooted as immediate solution. Having no immediate solution in sight for removal of the skidded vehicle, authorities decided to make an alternate road, and began to chop some trees and bushes, used a JCB and finally completed a road by 10 am, bringing a huge relief to the stranded highway traffic.

The container, however, was still in place late Tuesday evening, as the crane expected at 6 pm to lift it had not yet reached, informed sources.
