Cunchelim Sports Club registered a fluent 3-1 win over Saligao Sporting Club to secure full points in a GFA 2nd Division League match played at Duler Stadium here on Tuesday.
With this win, Cunchelim has 11 points from six matches while Saligao Sporting has just three points.
Cunchelim SC began on an attacking note and had two close attempts at the rival goal. In the 10th minute, Ganesh Poojar collected a through pass from Vayan Virnodkar and drilled a shot on target but saw his strike from close range bang the head of the rushing Saligao keeper. Just two minutes later, Cunchelim’s Mahableshwar Thanekar goalbound shot was blocked by keeper Abinay and the ball rolled to Santosh Parwar who shot wide from close range.
At the other end, Saligao’s Aloke Bolekar 30-yard shot was brilliantly pushed for a corner by keeper Siraj. A minute later, Chandan Govekar dribbled past a host of defenders but shot wide from close range.
In the 32nd minute, Cunchelim broke the deadlock through the boots of Mahableshwar, who cut past the keeper and scored to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, Mahablesewar controlled a square pass from Vayan but his shot was blocked by the Saligao keeper.
Crossing over, Cunchelim doubled their lead through Rohan’s deft placement. Down by two goals, Saligao Sporting reduced the margin in the 76th minute when Ajay Diwadkar lobbed the ball over the Cunchelim keeper to make it 1-2.
While the Saligao colts were in search of an equaliser, Cunchelim struck their third goal in the 84th minute through the boots of Ganesh Poojar, who placed the ball into the far corner of the goal to make it 3-1.
Meanwhile, Milagres Sports Club suffered their first defeat to Assonora United Sports Club by a 1-2 margin at Poriat Ground. Albino Pereira gave Milagres the lead in the 35th minute before Dikshay Sarap scored an equaliser for Assonara United in the 37th minute. On crossing over, Brijesh Kankonkar scored in the 66th minute to give three points to his team.
