Darryl Gama who represented Goa in the Sub Junior National Football Championship met with an accident in Tempa, Florida, United States on September 13, succumbed to injuries later.
His funeral cortege will leave his residence at Sanvorcotto ,Cuncolim on September 30 at 4 pm to Our Lady of Health Church,Cuncolim for Eucharistic celebration.
He was 47 and is survived by his mother Artiza Gama, brothers Darwin and Danny.
Darryl started his career at Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim. He donned colours for Rising Club of Sanvorcotto, Salcete Football Club and Vasco Sports Club. He was disappointed when he never made it to the Goa under 23 team when Goa hosted the Santosh trophy. He was one of the stand-by, when his village mate and friend Nazario Coutinho was part of the team. Sammy Tavares former Cuncolim Union footballer was saddened by the news. "I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear the passing away of Darryl Gama. You don’t get to see players of Gama's stature and class any more," said Tavares.
The news of Gama’s death closes a significant chapter on the history of Cuncolim football.

He was respected and dignified person," said Armando Colaco, former India, Dempo & East Bengal coach.Others who condoled Darryl's death included Ciano Fernandes former MPT player, Oscar Marrtins of AVC Cultural Association and Armstrong Vaz, sports journalist.
