Cuncolim hold Albert's Princesses

Cuncolim Warriors and Albert's Princesses played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the GFA-Vedanta Women's Football League at Cuncolim ground on Friday. Somaya Mukundar scored for the hosts, while Marlat Cardozo netted the equaliser for the Princesses.
Both teams having lost their previous games in the Round 3 at Sirsaim, came out with positive ideas and it was Cuncolim Warriors, who created the first chance through Malvita Mascarenhas. Her shot off a free-kick, however, was just a whisker away from the crossbar.
The game then saw both teams enjoy almost equal possession, but it was the home side that created more chances. Somaya Mukundar put the hosts in front in the 20th minute, placing the ball into the rival goal after a mazy run.
Cuncolim Warriors created more chances through Anushka Viegas and Somaya with the latter coming close to scoring in the 30th minute, where her attempt was foiled in the nick of time. On the other side, Marlat Cardozo had the chance, but the Princesses' attacker was thwarted by rival defender Ageema Rodrigues. The second half saw the Princesses press hard through Marlat and substitute Anushka Castro.
Cuncolim's Somaya meanwhile, made a wonderful run on the right flank but the rival captain Scindia cleared the danger in the 47th minute. Both teams seemed restricted to midfield play for some time then before a mistake by Ageema Rodrigues led to Marlat's run inside the penalty area in the 55th minute. However, the goalkeeper was alert enough to thwart the move.
Marlat finally made levelled the scoreline in the 60th minute as she lobbed the ball over the Cuncolim goalkeeper who had come out wide to clear the ball. Trying hard to take the lead, Marlat came close to scoring but found her shot from inside the box, go straight into the goalkeeper's hands.
On the other side, Cuncolim Warriors kept trying to find the winner through Somaya and Sharon Fernandes, but the Princesses' defence
stood strong.
