Cuncolim Union prevailed over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 6-5 via tiebreaker to storm into the semi-finals of All Goa Late Jose Bento Memorial inter village football tournament organised by Navelim Villagers Union at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Saturday.

Santa Cruz's breakthrough came in the eighth minute when Valerio Fernandes gently tapped it home off a defence splitting cross from Darren Estibeiro. Stung by that setback, Cuncolim Union regrouped quickly but Valky Fernandes' goal-bound shot was headed out by a rival defender. Post resumption, Cuncolim Union put up a vastly improved display and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. In the 38th minute, Frazier Fernandes punted the ball to the far corner of the net off Adney Fernandes' measured pass. In the resultant tiebreaker, Cuncolim Union netted through Krishna Shirodkar, Edney Fernandes, Beston Colaco, Bharat Gaonkar and Nilesh Velip, while Alex Rodrigues, Joyson Estebeiro, Allan Fernandes and Edelbert D'Silva found the mark for the Cavelossim lads.
The 36th National Games will be held in Goa from November 4-17 next year with 32 sports disciplines including sepak takraw and triathlon.
