MARGAO
Curtorim Gymkhana and Goa Police scored victories in their respective matches in the Geno GFA First Division League. Curtorim trounced Velsao SCC 3-0 at Ambelim ground while Goa Police blanked Goa Velha SC 2-0 at Artificial turf, Fatorda.
Curtorim Gymkhana lead 1-0 at half time with striker Milagres Fernandes opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Suraj Naik (60th minute) and Cliff Baretto (80th minute) scored apiece in the second half.
Curtorim Gymkhana coached by Alex Dias, had lost to Cuncolim Union 3-1 in the previous match. However, they dominated the game today right from the word go. At the other end, Velsao made quite an impression in the few minutes having some chances but their strikers could not make them count.
Lead by striker Milagres Fernandes and midfielder Suraj Naik, Curtorim broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Milagres’ accurate strike eluded the rival goalkeeper thanks to a quick angled pass from Suraj.
Stung by that setback, Velsao tried their best to come back into the game but their forwards were found wanting in front of the rival goalmouth. Suraj added his name on the scorers’ list in the 60th minute with a neat finish off Jaison Dias. Thereafter, Velsao could not rise up from the double blows and conceded another goal in the 80th minute when Clencio Pinto beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish off Suraj’s fine cross
Meanwhile at Sirsaim ground, St Savio SC brushed aside the challenge of Holy Cross SC Arambol 2-0.
