MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana triumphed over Santa Cruz Society Poitomado Cuncolim 6-5 in a tense tiebreaker to secure a spot in the semifinals of the Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup football tournament at Padribhat Ground on Monday.
Despite both teams putting in strong performances, the match remained goalless at full-time. In the tiebreaker, Curtorim Gymkhana scored through Freddy Hilario, Floyd Antao, Rhay Dias, Elton Mascarenhas, Aliston Fernandes, and Vernon Fernandes. For Santa Cruz Society, Mathew Gomendes, Ansh Patil, Viraz Velip, Ravesh Velip, and Shankar Rao found the net.
Vernon Fernandes of Curtorim Gymkhana was honored with the Bento Andrew Award, recognizing his contributions as an ex-international player.
