Goa's off-spinning all-rounder Mohit Redkar has said he is looking forward to getting game time when he turns up for the South Zone team in the DB Deodhar Trophy cricket tournament to be played in Puducherry.
"When I heard the news of my selection, I was stunned for a moment. When I conveyed the information to my parents, tears of happiness rolled down their eyes," Mohit said.
"My father is the one who made me take an interest in cricket by entering me for my first coaching session when I was young. I am thankful to my coach Sandeep Naik who polished my rough edges. Now, my aim is to find a place in the first eleven," the all-rounder added.
The cricketer's father, Sandeep Redkar was over the moon after his son's selection. “We are feeling proud that our son played a key role in Goa's Ranji campaign. His real inning begins now and I am confident that he will play for the Indian senior team one day,’’ Redkar senior said.
The rising Goan talent has also been selected among the standby players for India A squad in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 to be played in Sri Lanka from July 13 to 23. He was also selected for the High-Performance Camp for Emerging Players 2023 to be conducted at NCA-Bengaluru from August 17 to September 5.
The young off-spinner from Margao made an impressive debut in Ranji Trophy in the 2022-23 season, bagging 19 wickets in 7 matches. Mohit notched up two fifers, one each against Rajasthan and Kerala. The 22-year-old also showed his potential with the bat as he scored 238 runs in 7 matches at an average of 26.44.
