Goa University's 37th Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship Men & Women 2024-2025 concluded on March 1 witnessing a flurry of record-breaking performances at the SAG Athletics Stadium at Bambolim.
Over three days, approximately 1000 athletes from 47 colleges affiliated with Goa University competed in the prestigious event. Prof. Sunder N. Dhuri, Registrar of Goa University, inaugurated the championship, emphasizing the university's commitment to promoting sports.
The championship showcased exceptional talent, with five new records set, highlighting the athletes' dedication and skill. Notably, photo-finish technology was employed for all track events, ensuring accurate and precise results.
The record-breaking performances included: 4x400m Relay Women: Don Bosco College, Panjim, clocked an impressive 53.001 seconds. 100m Hurdles Women: Nathan Shimron of Don Bosco College, Panjim, set a new record of 15.695 seconds. 100m Run Men: Moses Mascarenhas of Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, sprinted to victory in 10.692 seconds. 800m Run Women: D’Souza Swizel of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, finished in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Hammer Throw Men: Rudra Bhosle of DM’s College, Assagao, achieved a distance of 36.55 meters.
Moses Mascarenhas of Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, and Nathan Shimron of Don Bosco College, Panjim, were awarded the titles of Best Athlete Male and Female, respectively.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Professor Vikas J. Pissurlekar, Principal of PES’s RNS College of Arts & Science, Ponda as the Chief Guest and Anura Prabhu Dessai, an international badminton player as the Guest of Honor. Ryan Pereira, College Director of Physical Education and Sports of Don Bosco College Panjim also attended. Balachandra B. Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, assisted in presenting the trophies and medals to the deserving winners.
